I finally checked off an item on my bucket list this weekend and it something that was hard for me. I ran my first 5k at the Inaugural global financial crisis essay race back in my college town.
My friend Jenilee signed up with me and it was fun to get to do it with someone else. I’m not a runner and have never considered myself to do something like this but I truly enjoyed it.
I’ve been doing intense cardio with spin classes since February but running is entirely different for me. I was only able to run/train about three times before the race and truly just wanted to be able to finish this one.
I finished 78/131 in the female category which is about the middle of that category and with 12 minute miles which I was happy with for not being able to run and train for it. I had to walk a couple of times and got rained on but it was a great experience and fun to run through the campus and past my old dorm room.
My actual time and stats are below of 38:54, the 5k ending was a little before the finish line. I want to say my watch had a little over 3.2/3 miles tracked.
I’m super proud of us and think I’ve caught the running bug. I’m a little self competitive and am thankful I did this for myself. And of course, it was pretty cool that my first race was the Stilly Half’s first one as well. Love supporting my cowboys! I’m hoping my next I can shave off a few minutes per mile.
We had a great weekend with our friends and a much needed date night with them too the Saturday night before. We got to take them around Stillwater to some of our favorite places and have a lot of laughs. We are planning a little camping trip with our families in a few weeks that I’m so excited for too.
I just wanted to post this blog for memories and to look back on my progress but also as a reminder for whoever reads this space still that you are capable of hard things. I’m excited to hang this medal up as a daily reminder that I can do whatever I set my mind to. Can’t wait for the next one!
