I know these are super easy to make but I wanted to post on how to make them because they are so easy. These are what I am using as centerpieces on the tables at Paisley’s party this weekend.
I bought all of my supplies (2 sizes of Styrofoam balls, MagiKote, black paint, small dowel rods, and ribbon) at Hobby Lobby.
First: I stuck one of my dowel rods about 3 inches into one of the larger styrofoam balls (the head) and one into each of the smaller balls (the ears) so it would be easier to paint. I then painted a thin coat of this Styrofoam primer called MagiKote. Styrofoam soaks paint really easy so this serves like a sealant and helps you not to use so much of your paint.
Second: I paint a pretty thick coat of black paint on top of the MagiKote that I applied to the head and ears and let those dry for 2-3 hours.
Third: You can hot glue the ears onto the head but after the first two minnie mouse heads I made I found that it was easier to break about 4 inches of a dowel rod and connect the ears and head that way and then glue around it to secure them together.
Last: I just tied some pink ribbon into a bow and hot glued it in between the two ears.
I haven’t taken a picture yet of these heads in tact with the base but I will put putty down in the bottom of a flower pot and put raffia in it as a filler. Pictures will come soon after the party. :)
I have a lot more to do before the party but we are making progress!
